Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomy Technician Program consists of two course sequences for a total of 176-hours.

The 96-hour classroom portion focuses on the theoretical mastery of phlebotomy rules, regulations, and practices.

Students must pass the theory portion (PLAB 1023) with a grade of at least 70% and must pass a skills test before obtaining approval to participate in the onsite clinical practice (PLAB 1060). 

An 80-hour onsite clinical setting focused on developing the student's professional skills and enabling the student to apply specilialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts as supervised by the clinical professional, and completing at least 100 live sticks.

Phlebotomy Technician students are eligible to apply for Duddlesten Foundation scholarships while funds remain available.

Program Highlights

Upon passing the previous sequence, students moves onto the third sequence, a 48-hour clinical experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts as supervised by the clinical profession.


Program FAQ

Students are able to further their credentials by taking the national exam for Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) through the National Healthcare Association. Students who complete the course are eligible to schedule the CPT exam. The exam is included in the cost of the course.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, phlebotomists earn a median salary of $36,320 per year. The national demand for phlebotomists is expected to grow 22% between 2020 and 2030, generating 28,800 new jobs nationwide. Phlebotomist is ranked in the best careers in healthcare support, according to U.S. News & World Report. It is also ranked in the 100 best jobs overall.
